Tracking a keyword with Social Listening

Open-ended mention monitoring, distinct from tracking a specific competitor.

When to use this instead of Competitor Analysis

Competitor Analysis tracks one competitor's own posts. Social Listening searches for any public post mentioning a keyword or brand name — useful for watching your own brand name, a product name, or an industry term.

Setting it up

Add a keyword from the Social Listening page. Mentions sync automatically every few hours, or click Sync now for an immediate check.

Choosing keywords that aren't noise

Brand names that double as common words generate far more noise than signal. Pair such a term with a qualifier, and add the misspellings people actually type — those often carry more genuine mentions than the correct spelling.

Mentions without a tag

Most conversation about a brand never tags it. Keyword tracking is what surfaces those, which is the main reason listening finds things the notifications tab never shows you.

Deciding what deserves a reply

Not every mention wants a response from a brand. A direct question is an invitation; a passing reference between two other people generally isn't, and joining that conversation uninvited reads as surveillance.

Reviewing your keyword list

Keywords age. Campaign terms stop mattering, new product names appear, and a term that was quiet becomes noisy. Pruning the list every few months keeps the feed worth opening.
